A generation connected by questions, not borders.

Common Future is an independent, youth-led digital publication connecting young people across Europe and Canada through ideas, culture, science, and debate.

Why We Exist

Young people across the world face many shared challenges: economic uncertainty, climate change, geopolitical instability, technological transformation, and questions about democratic participation.

Yet their experiences and perspectives are often separated by national boundaries. The same question — about housing, about identity, about the future of work — is debated in parallel in a hundred places, rarely in conversation.

Common Future aims to create a space where those perspectives can meet.

What We Believe

Democracy and human dignity

Open societies where every person's voice and rights matter.

Social solidarity and equal opportunity

A fair chance at a good life shouldn't depend on where you start.

Environmental responsibility

Decisions made today should be livable for the generations inheriting them.

Scientific reasoning and critical thinking

Evidence over assertion; curiosity over certainty.

Cultural diversity and mutual understanding

Difference as a source of insight, not division.

Constructive international cooperation

Shared challenges deserve shared answers.

These values guide the publication — but contributors are not required to agree on every political or policy question. We expect disagreement; we ask only that it be honest, evidenced, and respectful.

Why Europe and Canada?

Europe and Canada share important democratic, social, scientific, and cultural traditions, while offering different perspectives on common challenges.

A Canadian conversation about multiculturalism, a Dutch conversation about cycling cities, a Portuguese conversation about housing — each contains something the others can use. The publication seeks to strengthen understanding between younger generations across the Atlantic, with the possibility of expanding internationally over time.

Our Independence

Common Future is an independent, nonpartisan initiative. It is not affiliated with any government, political party, or campaign.

Articles reflect the views of their authors, not necessarily those of the publication. Opinion, personal essays, interviews, and evidence-based analysis are clearly labelled as such, and factual claims are expected to cite sources.
